Mrs B Armed And Ready To Save The World

The other day I dropped by Lisa at  Privilege and read a post on something mysterious called an Arm Party.  I got the wrong end of the stick and thought it meant you had actually to get together with friends and all show off and clank your bangles and bracelets and other arm accoutrements  - handcuffs, electronic tags, blood pressure monitors. bits of string off the Sunday joint (roast meat, ok) etc.. I was a bit worried about the Elf and Safety implications of such a gathering - what if I got over-excited mid-conversation, swept my hand back theatrically (as I am wont to do), and knocked out the teeth of the person next to me with an arm bulked up with bits of metal, leather, spikes and painted enamel? .... But, as Lisa explains, Arm Party is  a term invented by a feisty young New York fashion blogger called the Man Repeller http://www.manrepeller.com/.  And it simply means having lots of jewellery decorating your wrists, in an artful and eclectic manner.

Lots of the bloggy fashion girls seem to go in for arm parties.  For some, the party never stops and I applaud their ability to get out the house on time and to get through airport security unmolested.

Here is Miss Atlantic-Pacific.

Here is Miss Sterling Style

Having read Lisa's post, I knew that the world would not be safe until I had really got to grips with the whole Arm Party concept...and you know me, so selfless...so I spent a  lovely half hour or so saving the  Universe looking at bingly bangles on the internet...

I saw this,
TopShop bracelet
 And this.
TopShop bangle
 And this
TopShop charm bracelet - guess which website I was on!

In the end I bought this, I mean I did not want to, but the entire galaxy was at stake. It reminded me of those Hermes ones but was just a little bit cheaper. (And as it's just going to get covered in Nutella and toothpaste anyway....)
TopShop imitation leather bracelet £8.50

Hermes leather bracelet, a bit more than £8.50

Another Hermes leather bracelet
Phew, the world was a safe place again.
And now I know why Wonder Woman wore those cuffs.

  2. Well I know it's late here in Australia and I'm tired but I did need to reread this several times Blights as my brain couldn't get past the concept of an arm party.
Truly what will they think of next?!
The pleather bracelet is fab and I promise not to tell anyone it's not real cow.

  3. My arms are desperate to have a party but I am keeping them under control. No parties for my arms until they lose those flabby bits up the top.

  5. The world is a much safer place with you in it, Blighty. I was hoping you would show us your lovely arm filled with bling.

  7. Not waiting for the bat wings at the top to get themselves disciplined in order for the wrists at the bottom to get their arm party. If I did, I'd never get the party. Ready...aim...install bling.

  8. Wow - what great stuff Top Shop has. I totally love the arm party idea, but I don't like the jangly noise you get with soap barmaids and all their bling. Tends to scupper any stealth/ninja-type activities you might be engaged in. The vegan leather seems the perfect solution and I might well get one of those myself! xxx

  9. Dear Mrs Blighty, I didn't know about arm parties either until Lisa mentioned them. Your blogs are so educational! I am torn between loving the girlishness of the sound of bangles/bracelets gently clinking and Mrs Exeter's point about the need for ninja stealth. I must give this more consideration. I am glad you are going about armed - I just wish you were keeping the world safer over here. love Lindaxxx

  10. Blighty
This is just the kind of party I think I could join.

We're heading into spring here in Australia and if I don't have bangles and bracelets that make the grade I will be inspired by nature and try a floral corsage type arrangement...

  12. I dare say your faux leather has got a bit more going on, and such a great colour too.

Arm parties are interesting. Sounds like you can't fail, just whack everything you own on before you walk out the door and you've nailed The Look! I like it.

  13. Cheeses H "you know who" Blights. What's with all this posting?
I ambled over here after finally putting my homework up on my blog, to look see if you had been active at all, and there is a veritable cornucopia of Blighty posts.
    Can't you sleep or something?
AND - you have inserted a video, yee gods - when did you get all techno and stuff?
Shameless showing off here, but I actually have the Hermes Brangle Leather Arm thingie in orange, with an Hermes Hippo Lock thing that goes on it. And I NEVER wear it. Waste, WAste, waste - I know.
Now I cannot afford not to check into Blightyworld daily, or - I could work out how to subscribe - I have not mastered that yet.

  14. Dear Moerks, I should definitely be in the CMC
    Hi Jac and Toby Rollin!
Mrs Exeter and Linda - yes, I agree about the ninja stealth dilemma; Mr B gave me 2 very nice Tiffany bangles years ago ( see, he gets a bad press on this blog but it is very unfair of me) and they bingle all the time, he uses it as a tracking device e.g. "just off upstairs to fold the laundry.." ; no bingling = instead am skiving off lyoing on bed reading magazine...
Louise - yes quite frankly I have been blogtastic but am now drained emotionally and physically; I could just see the blog dying from apathy so decided to try to go for it and post more often...we all know this will last for about 1 week... xx
